My first photo shoot in LA!

Hi everyone!

Today was a LONG day. Since, I moved out to LA,  I was lucky enough to sign with a modeling agency who helped me book a Skechers job in the first week! However, they wanted me to get all new photos for my portfolio that are more natural and "commercial" looking. So, I'm thinking to myself, GREAT more money to spend.

Therefore, today I shot with an incredibly talented photographer, Marcel Indik. I have to say, I was intimidated because I haven't really done shots like these in a LONG time. I realized that I have a lot to learn with modeling and it isn't just about posing and making a pretty face. It's about telling a story and conveying it through your eyes and body language. I feel like modeling is definitely an art because it is a lot like acting. You have to play make believe and really feel like you are in a certain moment and be able to express it beautifully. There are also SO many different looks that an agency needs in order to market you to a variety of clients. I incorporated looks from clean, no-makeup head shots, swimsuits, lingerie, casual denim and vests, active lifestyle, classic and sophisticated, soft and pretty, to a crazy and bright dress I could move gracefully in to show off my dance background.

I was so nervous to put all these outfits together. Styling is a LOT of work, I didn't know how I was going to do it because not only am I pretty bad at it and really impatient, I also don't have the hippest wardrobe in the world. Then, a lightbulb went on and I remembered...HELLO my sister, Kenzie is a fashionista extraordinaire! Wow, I was in luck. A week before the shoot, Kenzie went through all the looks I needed and we put AMAZING outfits together. I don't know how she does it, it just clicks with her. She puts things together I wouldn't even think of. Not only did she relieve the stress of putting my entire wardrobe together (primarily from her closet), she came with me to the shoot and the photographer ended up using her as his assistant too! For all the other models out there who do all this on their own, plus hair and make-up...more power to ya! At least, I realize my weaknesses and am lucky enough to rely on my sissy.

I haven't seen the photos yet, I am meeting with Marcel tomorrow to go through them so hopefully they turn out okay. He did send me one photo though, and it is of Kenzie and I. To thank her for all her support, expertise, and hard work I am posting the photo below. Let us know what you think!

Let me know if you guys have any particular requests for my blog next time :-)

Until next time,
Kristen

  5. beautiful photo, so natural! You guys have great skin! I admire that you admit to not being the best stylist or having the hippest clothes...everyone you see in the mags look so put together, even when they're "scrubby". Maybe all those people have a stylist?

If MTV had done another pageant reality show with miss usa, miss teen and miss universe - would you have done it when you were miss usa? Also, what is life like now that you've passed your crown to someone else?

    Thanks for keepin' it real!

  6. ..wow you seem very busy between the photo shoot and your move to LA..How is Los Angeles? I always wanted to visit a major american city (I'm Italian ;D) all seem so chaotic and full of fun, but I think it is very easy to feel a bit alone in a city so big..luckily you have your sister!
However you and your sister are amazing..you have perfect skin, I'd like to know which products you use or eat food to keep it.. ohh well some time ago I read your sister's blog, and I must say that I liked her style..my compliments!!I'd like to see some looks that you have created for the photo shoot..
Sorry for my bad English!!Have a good time..
